The best book I have seen on HRM.
I found this book very readable. He uses a lot of terms that anyone could understand, but he also makes the book interesting to a MBA student. Good Work! And a great price for a textbook!

Analytical summaries of the best of the literature
The Frontier Issues in Economic Thought summaries, along with the overview essays, provide a markedly different service from the standard collection of abstracts. The series will benefit not only scholarly work but the application of our best thinking to the problems of the times.

I Am NOT Going to School Today!
Published in Hardcover by Margaret K. McElderry (July, 2003)
Authors: Robie Harris and Jan Ormerod
Average review score:

Enjoyable support to ease starting school jitters
This sensitive portrayal of a child with the willies over starting school is an engaging story in itself and will also bolster the resolve of young ones approaching their own first days at preschool or kindergarten. The little boy in this expressively illustrated book seems not to have had the opportunity to visit his classroom in advance, or meet his teacher, but evidently is already familiar with preschool routines.

The night before school starts, he decides definitely NOT to go for his first day. As he explains to his tenderly respectful parents the morning of the big day, he won't know anything on the first day, ". . . all the kids' names, or which cubby is your cubby, or where the crayons are, or what kind of juice they have, or if they have crackers -at all!" Not knowing any of the songs, 'or when it's story time, or where the toilet is, or if you can play in the rain. " are troubling too, and besides, how will his stuffed monkey manage without him?

After dad's good blueberry pancakes, and her son's temporary retreat under the kitchen table, mom sensibly suggests, as departure time presses, that Hank the stuffed monkey go along, and so he does. Hank is introduced to the teacher and, through the course of an appealing, active day, all the essential information is imparted. The pictures carry most of the rest of the story, showing children comfortably enjoying themselves at school. Nervousness overcome, our bright, endearing little hero (and Hank) plan to return the next day.

The publisher gauges this book appropriate for 4-8 year olds, but it will be appreciated by three year olds too, for years to come.

I'Ve Just Seen Jesus

A modern day hymn
I never need more than "Sandi Patty" on an item before it is in my possession, but this re-release went a bit further. My mother died exactly two years ago yesterday, 5/31/00. About three days prior to this passing mother's day I dreamed of my mother for only the second time since she has been gone. In the dream I saw her dancing around the throne singing "isn't He beautiful".

Although mother's day brings a bit of emptiness, she left behind three sisters who I take advantage of still be here with me. I rushed out to get each one of them Sandi Patty's Artist of My Soul which has a very special meaning to me. It served as one of the most intimate times I ever shared with my mother before she died. So with this mother's day, I decided to share this story which happened to me and mom before she died and accompany it with "Artist of My Soul".

To my suprise, I passed the book shelve and the book listing Sandi Patty as an author caught my eye. I picked it up and then remembered of the most unusual dream about mom singing around a throne singing "isn't He beautiful", and now this re-released song "I've Just Seen Jesus" with a book. Then it seemed to click. Mother's Day, mom "seeing Jesus", etc..... I picked up three copies for my aunts and bought two for my collection.

I listen to the CD which is enclosed in the book's rear plastic holder. Despite knowing the song and listening to it many times, it seemed to be different this time. My aunts all called crying after reading the note I wrote about my dream, the experience I had with mom in ICU while Artist of My Soul played, and how this all seemed to be a little "too perfect" for coincidence.

My rating is five stars for this item. And as for my Sandi Patty, well she will always have a special meaning and serve as a constant reminder of how much God loves me. She will always get 10 stars out of five.

This great song released in the mid 1980's written by the Gaithers serves as a modern day hymn that blessed so many then, and sure blessed one son that misses his mom everyday. Out of this, three aunts were introduced to something "new" and will serve as a reminder of my mom who will live on and on, even if just in a memory or song.

Illustrated Encyclopedia of Ancient Egypt
Published in Hardcover by NTC/Contemporary Publishing Co. (09 February, 2001)
Authors: Geraldine Harris, Delia Pemberton, and Geraldine Hams
Average review score:

Illustrated Encyclopedia of Ancient Egypt
Accessible three ways: through the index, through keywords in boldface type, or through alphabetic browsing, it also is organized into "trails" one can follow to discover information about a particular topic, e.g. work or everyday life. Uneven coverage, for example, under the entry for Nile, all that is written is "the main river of Egypt". However, the entry for Hieroglyphs and writing is 2 pages long. Notwithstanding, there is still much information of value, especially regarding Egyptian gods. Author lectures at Oxford University.

An illustrated outline history of mankind

A History of the World in Pictures and Short Paragraphs
If you are looking for a reference that will summarize what's been happening since forever, this is it. In two volumes, Fay-Cooper and friends manage to sum it all up. And then they liberally illustrate it all with several photos per page, some in color, some not. The text is not difficult to read so junior or senior high schoolers could make use of this set to "get their bearings" on what the teacher is presenting. An excellent work by a well-known and highly regarded anthropologist, the books end at the close of WWII.
